Purpose born from loss, sustained by service
Founded 15 August 2006 · Uttarakhand & Delhi NCR, “I lost my father to a snakebite when I was three. That loss planted in me a lifelong need to serve to make sure others did not face hardship alone.”
My roots run deep into the hills of Kumaon, Pithoragarh. Growing up, it was my grandfather and nanaji who shaped my understanding of what a life well-lived looks like, one rooted in simplicity, humility, and service. Witnessing the everyday struggles of ordinary people in the hills did not burden me; it gave me direction.

We founded Growth Foundation of India (GFOI) on Independence Day, 2006, a deliberate choice, because for us,
true independence means freedom from poverty, illness, and exclusion. In the nearly two decades since, we have worked across areas we believe are fundamental to human dignity: Health, Education, and Women’s Empowerment, along with Environment.

To date, we have covered a population of 5 lakh people across Uttarakhand & Delhi NCR. We operate a Drug Rehab Centre, an Old Age Home, five Education Centres, two SHGs, two adopted slums, and one school. Good work attracts good people. Our staff are the most valuable instruments through which we serve the most vulnerable. The road is long and sometimes uneven, but every community member, donor, corporate partner, and well-wisher who has walked this journey with us has made the load lighter. May God bless each one who has contributed to restoring the dignity and rights of the marginalised, and through them, to the growth of our Nation.

When India needed them most, they showed up

Delhi, March – September 2020 – Community Kitchen & Livelihood Response
The crisis: Overnight, India’s lockdown left millions of migrant labourers stranded on Delhi’s streets, no work, no food, no way home. While the nation scrambled to respond, GFOI was already cooking.

THE STORY

Within days of the lockdown, Director Mr Nirmal Pathak mobilised GFOI to set up a Community Kitchen near Safdarjung Hospital, one of Delhi’s busiest COVID centres. Every morning, 1,000 fresh meals were prepared and delivered to COVID warriors at both Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS, the doctors and nurses putting their lives on the line while the rest of India stayed home. We did not ask whether we could afford to help. We asked how quickly we could start. But GFOI saw a second crisis unfolding alongside the medical one: thousands of migrant workers from Uttarakhand, far from home, with no income and no certainty. Rather than simply distribute food and move on, GFOI offered them part-time employment at ₹15,000 per month, running the kitchen, managing logistics, and keeping the operation alive. In doing so, they gave these men and women not just a meal, but a purpose.

THREE THINGS GFOI DID THAT OTHERS DIDN’T

Project “IGL-SHIKSHA”

Launched by Growth Foundation of India in partnership with IGL, the “IGL-SHIKSHA” project is a 6-month skill development and vocational training program for women, children, and unemployed youth in Bawal, Rewari district, Haryana. The program focuses on providing basic computer and digital literacy to marginalised communities, helping them access government schemes, perform banking transactions, book tickets independently, and gain employment in various sectors.

Key Impact Areas:

The project empowers the most vulnerable sections of society — giving them the tools to become self-reliant and economically independent in today’s digital world.

In today’s fast-paced world, a growing number of elderly people find themselves without the care and companionship they truly deserve. Many senior citizens are neglected by their families, while others, though financially secure, have no one to look after them in times of illness and old age. This isolation often leads to serious psychological depression, robbing them of the peace and dignity they have earned through a lifetime of hard work.

Recognizing this pressing need, Growth Foundation of India has established “SAHARA,” a dedicated Old Age Home located in Kotabagh, Haldwani, Uttarakhand. SAHARA is a place where every senior citizen can find warmth, care, and a sense of belonging. SAHARA opens its doors to any senior citizen of Indian origin who is unable to lead a comfortable life due to loneliness, the absence of a caregiver, or neglect by family. It also welcomes those who wish to spend their remaining years meaningfully serving society and sharing their wisdom and experiences with the younger generation.

Admission to SAHARA follows a simple medical process. Applicants are required to submit relevant medical test reports, which are reviewed by the home’s assigned doctor. Final admission is confirmed only upon the doctor’s approval, ensuring the well-being of every resident. SAHARA is open to both abandoned and financially independent elderly individuals. GFOI is actively partnering with leading medical institutions to ensure that every member of SAHARA receives comprehensive and proper healthcare assistance at all times.

Our Aim: Sahara by GFOI is established with the vision of providing home comforts, dignity, and peace of mind to senio
